The Oscars ceremony has been pushed back by two months due to Corona virus. The ceremony was due to take place on the 28th February 2021 but has now been delayed to the 25th April 2021.
There is some good news for filmmakers though, the eligibility window has also been extended from 31 December to the end of February 2021. This means that films which had to be put on hold due to pandemic may still be able to be finished in time to be considered for the prestigious award.
The Oscars has only been delayed three times before – due to LA flooding in 1938; after the assassination of Dr Martin Luther King Jr in 1968; and following the attempted assassination of President Ronald Reagan in 1981.
The nominations will be announced on 15th March 2021 and it is still yet to be decided if the ceremony will be virtual or in person.
