Yes – ‘Pulp Fiction’ was an independent movie! Quentin Tarantino’s masterpiece not only secured him an Oscar for its brilliant script, but also received remarkable financial success, grossing over $200 million globally. To this day, it remains a timeless classic and ranks among the most successful films in the history of cinema.
CLERKS

Clerks is a 1994 black and white comedy written and directed by Kevin Smith. His feature length directorial debut gained great success, grossing over $4 million in theatres and launching his career. The cult classic was shot for only $27,500, following the often neglected lives of store clerks, it is truly a landmark in independent filmmaking.
MEMENTO

Emerging as one of the industry’s most accomplished directors, Christopher Nolan’s early career saw the creation of this critically acclaimed independent film. Despite its modest budget, it garnered widespread respect and admiration, and remains one still today.
LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE

The American Independent film ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ was entered into the Sundance Film Festival in 2006. The comedy-drama road movie follows the tale of Olive Hoover, played by Abigail Breslin, who unexpectedly wins a local beauty pageant, forcing her family to come together on a long road trip from Albuquerque to California. It’s a much loved film for families across the world!
THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT

Of course we can’t discuss successful indie films without mentioning ‘The Blair Witch Project’, this iconic masterpiece is still talked about 25 years after its release, making over $240 million worldwide. With its unique and innovative filmmaking style it’s truly an inspiration to all filmmakers.
LOST IN TRANSLATION

Another Oscar-winning script, Sofia Coppola’s much loved film was a critical and commercial success, with only a $4 million budget, it became Bill Murray’s favourite role – and for good reason!

And of course, Britain’s highest-grossing film of 1996, ‘Trainspotting’. With a star-studded cast, this has to be one of the most successful indie films of all time, just look where their career’s have taken them!
